Dangerous parking garage

Walking to the car from class, a classmate and I were shocked at how many lights are out on the top floor of the parking garage. There were no lights on the whole right side! It was dark, icey and extremely nerve racking to walk to our cars. As two female students who are well equipt to take care of themselves, I still can't help but wonder, what if? All the things you read about with on campus rapes and muggings, yes I know that its rare in our neck of the woods, but it's always better safe than sorry! Where is my tuition money going? Our parking garage is on a main street in Danbury, which means anyone can get in there, especially at night when your id is not required to get in the garage. Also there are many points of entry for someone on foot that is not a student. Growing up in this area most of my life, I know the parts of town where its okay to walk around in the dark and the parts that it is not. Where our parking garage is, well I can say is a little more than questionable. I did not see one campus security personel or car walking to the garage or pulling out with my car. Where is the staff that needs to replace the light bulbs? Where is the campus security that should be around at night? It's very nerve racking!

  1. We all think "it'd never happen to me," and then it happens. Safety is vital, anywhere we go. With the several attempts on my life (lets just say I DETEST white vans and creepers) I carry multiple mace/pepper spray bottles as well as other forms of defence, yet I still feel unsafe at Westconn. And now a bunch of lights are out in the parking garage? Yes... where is our tuition money going to?

  2. I agree with you that most women say "it'd never happen to me" but the chances are higher than most of us think. I think that WCSU should be taking better care of such things. I thought the ice all over the walk ways was bad enough, but somewhat understandable, we did get slammed with snow, and ice. However, there is no reason that the lights can not be replaced as the go out. A hole side of the upper lot was out! From one end to the other it was pitch black! I was lucky I could see far enough in front of me to walk to my car! I think that most people don't think of our little town of Danbury to be that bad of a place for that type of thing to happen, but little do they know, if you leave the door open, someone will walk in. They need to do a better job at keeping up with security measures to help prevent such issues as much as possible!

  3. I agree with you completely! Being a female and walking around at night ALWAYS makes me extremely nervous. While some tend to think "it will never happen to me", you should always be aware and cautious. Last year, I was grabbed by a man on my way home from work in WILTON. Wilton is a very nice area and it just goes to show you can never really be too careful! Someone should definitely look into this because this certainly sounds unsafe to me.

  4. Wow Katie, Wilton is one of those areas you def. don't expect something like that to happen! I did not get the opportunity to check it out today as it was not dark when I left campus, I will be checking on this next Monday when we have class and if the issue is not resolved I will be going to campus security to inform them of such a dangerous issue.
