Friendly Pirates? I think not.

So, I read the article yesterday about the pirates that killed four Americans. I think that it was awful and I feel for the families of those who were killed. I hadn't given it much other thought until this morning while I was watching Disney Junior with my one year old daughter, Julianna, who loves to see anything that moves, has color and makes music and sings! There is this pirate show, where the pirates are friendly and help everyone. I don't think that this is something that should be on a childrens channel, despite all the fairy tales and fiction stories that have been made up to entertain children, I was under the impression pirates really didn't exist anymore. Yes I was def. wrong, and think it's very wrong that children are given the idea that pirates are friendly. Who's to say these children watching this show don't end up on a cruise or in the wrong situation where they would come in contact with a real pirate, they would assume it friendly. I know that this would be a very rare situation, but it is one of those things that people need to think about. What are your children watching and how does it help them prepare to be in the real world? You want to make sure they are making children aware of the danger but also showing them things that are good. You do not want to scare the children about the bad in the world, but you do need to warn them and make sure they know what they should do in a situation. Not show them that pirates are good and friendly, what other shows have I not seen yet that may teach my daughter the wrong things in life??
